New Stats on Main Team Sheet
- We added shots for and shots against to the main team stat sheet
- There have been 17.2% more goals scored in REC (136) than in PRO (116)
- However, there have been 16.5% more shots in PRO (980) than in REC (841)
How "Balanced" is Your Team?
- Most teams have one or two players who completely dominate from a goals and/or assists standpoint. However, there are a few teams that have scoring spread out among three or four players.
- To check it out for yourself, look on the Excel Worksheet/Tab named [By Team Points TotalandAvg]
- Some teams one or two players for most goals (and goal creation)
- Others rely on one or two for goals, but have assists distributed
- Others have both goals and assists spread out
- It will be interesting to see whether the "star driven" or more "balanced" teams are more successful in the play-offs.
Aberration of the Week
- Puck Buddies out shot Ducks 50 to 16 this week.
- In his previous three outings for the Ducks, Elliot faced a total of 60 shots. In one game against Puck Buddies last weekend, that total almost doubled!.
- The 50 shots on goal by Puck Buddies against the Ducks was a new league record since the league moved to Rockville Sportsplex.
(FYI: Puck Buddies also put up 44 shots against Untouchables, and 41 against Funkmaster Redux) - The 44 saves made by Elliot also is a league record, since the move to Rockville
New Stat sheet [Gender Breakdown]
Data Point #1 Men account for 65% of all games played, and women account for 35% (no goalies)
Caveat #1: playing time still probably amounts to a 60%/40% split.
Caveat #2: Based on anecdotal evidence, we probably can assume men account for 66% of forward play (and therefore are more likely to be in position to score goals)
Data Point #2: 87% of goals scored by men; 13% by women
Data Point #3: 71% of assists credited to men; 29% credited to women
Data Point #4: of the men and women that have played at least one game
- 62% of men have at least one point
- 47% of women have at least one point
Interesting Notes on Penalties through Week 5
- Delay of Game was not called all year. In week 5, it was called 3 times.
- High sticking continues to be the most common penalty.
(A testament to DCHL's committment to player safety.) - After appearing only once in weeks 3 and 4, Interference reared its head with 4 penalty calls this week.
- There appears to be a clear leader in penalties incurred.
Future Analyses Under Consideration
- Total goals scored by week in each division
- Breakdown of shots/goals by period by team. Are some teams "fast starters"?
- Please submit suggestions in the comments.
For what it's worth, I'd like to see a comparative analysis regarding how each team performs at certain start times throughout the season. For example, what is the level of effort of the Scorpions when they played at 1:00 PM two Sundays ago compared to playing at 3:00 PM this past Sunday?
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure how you could measure this, but I thought it would be an amazing idea to see if there are any trends per the teams.
