Andy's Week 6 Predictions

By Andy G. and his trusty rusty Predict-O-Tron

From the home office in Vienna, it's time for the Predict-O-Tron to release its thoughts. I'm skipping the percent picks, which are most shaky, and just going with average score via the mathematics I used last time. Thank me later.

12 PM -- Moossassins vs Babylon Warriors
SCORE: Warriors 3.176, Moossassins 2.541
SHOTS: Warriors 20.829, Moossassins 12.739

THOUGHTS: The Thorp Patrol has been deadly accurate in the Rec division, leading the league in shot accuracy. Good thing, too, as they're last in shots taken and against the stingiest defense in shots in the Rec. All signs point to a one-v-one star showdown, but the defense for the Warriors may be just enough to win the day. They have a trend of never giving up on play and have literally stolen four points in the last 30 seconds of the last two games.

UPDATE/NEWS FLASH: The Vienna office has received a tip that JP will be OUT for the Babylon Warriors on Sunday. Until this can be confirmed, that game is OFF THE BOARD.

1 PM -- License 2 Thrill vs Scorpions
SCORE: Scorpions 3.388, Thrill 2.600
SHOTS: Scorpions 24.862, Thrill 18.644

THOUGHTS: Both teams are going to feel like they need a bounceback after losing it during losses. Members of each team were furious for various reasons after narrow defeats, each one stolen by a breakaway by a star player on the other end. Whoever can regain their composure will have an edge in this one.

2 PM -- Puck Buddies vs Blood Red
SCORE: Buddies 6.372, Red, 0.966
SHOTS: Buddies 41.567, Red 17.133

THOUGHTS: The Pucks are insanely good at shooting, and against any team that is even average, they will get 35-40 shots per game. By Pro standards, Blood Red has been playing below average (currently 6th), and part of their weakness has come in surrendering quality shots. Their team save percentage is .836 -- that's lower than the Rec division. This could get bad in a hurry.

3 PM -- Greenback Boogies vs 2 Jacks No Coke
SCORE: Jacks 7.247, Boogies 2.071
SHOTS: Jacks 28.195, Boogies 17.693

THOUGHTS: The Jacks have the best shooters in Rec; the Boogies, despite their improvement in the last two weeks, have the most problematic D/G combo in Rec. It's pretty clear the Jacks will bounce back up (and likely take the Warriors with them); if they wish to show they're contenders, this is a game they have to win easily.

6 PM -- Ducks vs Funkmaster Redux
SCORE: Redux 3.931, Ducks 1.490
SHOTS: Redux 32.502, Ducks 20.594

THOUGHTS: We saw what happened to the Ducks when they face a stingy defense last week; they need to rely on miracle shots and get swarmed on the other end. If the Funks want to prove they CAN win the DCHL Cup, they'll need to follow up their 6-1 thrashing of the Untouchables with a big win here; this will require hitting all the right notes on defense and getting their shooters on point on offense. This game will go a long way to testing who has a chance in the playoffs.

7 PM -- All Blacks vs Five Minute Majors
SCORE: Blacks 5.159, Majors 1.103
SHOTS: Blacks 22.498, Majors 20.689

THOUGHTS: The Majors continue to have the worst shooting defense in the Pro division (and are, in fact, second only to Greenbacks in the league). The Blacks are above the league average in both shooting percentage and, oddly, shots on goal -- when this team began, they had trouble finding the target, but their skill has increased with time. If they want to grab the 2 spot away from the Funks, now is the time to make a move.

8 PM -- Scabs vs Streetsharks
SCORE: Scabs 4.800, Sharks 2.141
SHOTS: Scabs 21.186, Sharks 24.970

THOUGHTS: As of now, this is a 4-5 game, but that will change after the Sunday result. The Scabs are much better than they let on and should be favored in their last two games, while the Sharks are riding a hot hand but still need help on the defensive end. That's one place the Scabs are airtight, with the #1 goalie in Rec helping a defense that can spring a counter-attack. Goaltending and shot placement are key.

9 PM -- Untouchables vs Snake Eyes
SCORE: Snakes 5.696, Untouchables 0.920
SHOTS: Snakes 25.257, Untouchables 13.257

THOUGHTS: These are the two least active offenses and most busy goaltenders in the Pro division. The difference is in shooting accuracy; Snake Eyes are 2nd, Untouchables 8th. Stronger teams have had trouble penetrating the Snake Eyes' defensive zone; can the Untouchables, who average less than a goal per game, find a way? Or will the Snake Eyes, who defied Vegas Suds' prediction last week, blast through another minnow this week? Is the question not who, but how much?

SUMMARY LINES:

Warriors -1/2 Moossassins
Scorpions -1 Thrill
Buddies -5 1/2 Red
Jacks -5 Boogies
Funks -2 1/2 Ducks
Blacks -4 Majors
Scabs -2 1/2 Streetsharks
Snakes -5 Untouchables
