Week-to-week change in Power Rankings - Week 3

By Owen E.

There was a lot of movement in the power rankings in both divisions this week.  In REC, teams tend to leapfrog several positions, whereas in PRO there are generally more modest moves of one or two positions.  There is also significantly more variability between analysts in the REC rankings while in PRO the analysts were always within one position of the other analysts. (Some of this may be accounted for by the fact that there are two more teams to rank in REC.)

Please read all observations in your best Casey Kasem voice for maximum effect.

PRO Division

  • The #1 ranked team (Puck Buddies) is on top for the 3rd week in a row (unanimously).
  • The All Blacks (#2) and DC Pravdacudas (#4) have advanced for two weeks in a row transitioning from the bottom half of the rankings in week 1 to the top half in week 3; meanwhile, Blood Red (#5) and Ducks (#6) have fallen to fill the gaps left in the bottom half.
  • Funkmaster Redux and Blood Red fade one position again, each dropping another notch this week. Funkmaster (#8) replace Snake Eyes (#7) in the cellar after Snake Eyes showed some signs of life eking out a tie.
  • Puck U drop one position this week to #3, but stay in the top tier of PRO teams and are still surpassing their rank from week 1.

REC Division

  • Like PRO, the #1 ranked team (Babylon Warriors) is on top for the 3rd week in a row (unanimously).
  • Only two of the top five teams from the week 1 rankings are still in the top five this week: the Warriors (#1) and the Greenback Boogies (#2).  Favorites 5MM (#8), 2Jacks (#9) and Moosassins (#6) have all fallen to the bottom half of the rankings.
    • Moosassins return to the middle of the pack (#6) after a week at #2.
    • 5 Minute Major dropped like a stone five notches to #8, the largest weekly drop in either division this season.
    • Greenbacks have remained near the top of the rankings and this week return to #2 where they started the season.
  • As you might expect after reading the last observation, three of the bottom five teams have clawed their way to the top half of the rankings:
    • Stingrays climb five rungs this week to #4, which is the largest weekly leap in either division this season.
    • Streetsharks continue their upward trend jumping four places to #3.
    • License 2 Thrill bounced back big this week breaking into the top half of the division (#5) after their dip to #8 in week 2.
  • Scabs and Untouchables have bounced around the most:
    • After a short trip to hang with the middle tier teams, the Scabs return to the REC underworld (#10), where they started the season.
    • Untouchables started the season at #7, then fell to #10 last week, but are now back up to #7 after picking up their first win.
